TOUS LES CHAMPIONS

The 14th world champion in the history of chess was born January 18, 1966 in Leningrad. Placed number 45 on the international list the Russian could not be considered to belong to the top-ranked players. However, those who know Alexander Khalifman's biography know that his chess is much better than this simple number can tell.
Six years old, little Sascha was taught chess by his father. First trainer in Leningrad Pioneer Palace was Wassili Byvshev, one of the most successful chess masters in the Soviet Union in the Fifties. Later on distance chess master and author Genady Neses became his main trainer. He supported him for more than two decades and also was at his side in Las Vegas from the quarter finals onwards
